he Falcon Pruning Professional is typically a high-quality set of pruning tools, often used for trimming and shaping plants, trees, and shrubs. If you’re referring to a specific tool like a pruning shear or lopper under the “Falcon Pruning Professional” name,
1. Select the Right Tool
Pruning Shears (Bypass or Anvil): Ideal for cutting smaller branches, stems, and flowers.
Loppers: Used for thicker branches (usually 1 to 2 inches in diameter).
Pruning Saws: For larger, tougher branches.
2. Inspect and Clean the Tools
Ensure your pruning tools are clean and sharp before use. Dull blades can damage the plant.
You can clean the blades with rubbing alcohol or soapy water to prevent the spread of disease between plants.
3. Choose the Right Time to Prune
Best time: Early spring or late winter (for most plants). Avoid pruning during extreme weather conditions.
Avoid pruning during flowering: If you’re pruning flowering plants, avoid cutting off buds, as it can reduce blooming.
4. Pruning Technique
Cut at the right angle: For branches, make sure to cut at a slight angle (45 degrees) to allow water to run off and avoid disease.
Make clean cuts: For smaller plants or stems, prune just above the leaf node or bud. For larger branches, aim for clean, precise cuts to reduce stress on the plant.
Avoid cutting too much: Prune conservatively. Never remove more than 1/3 of the plant at once to avoid stressing it.
Remove dead, diseased, or damaged growth: Always start by removing any unhealthy parts of the plant to promote healthy growth.
5. Pruning for Shape and Size
Shaping: Regularly prune to maintain the shape of the plant, especially for hedges and bushes.
Thin Out Growth: If the plant is becoming too dense, carefully thin out branches to allow light and air to reach the inner parts.
6. Aftercare
After pruning, give the plant proper care (water, sunlight, and if necessary, fertilizer) to help it recover and promote new growth.
Consider applying a plant sealant or pruning paste to larger cuts (typically for trees) to prevent infection.
If you have a particular plant in mind that you need advice for, let me know, and I can tailor the pruning instructions!
