An 8-cup seedling tray is a useful tool for starting seeds and growing seedlings, including microgreens. Here are some tips on how to use it effectively:
Setting Up Your 8-Cup Seedling Tray
Clean the Tray: Ensure the tray is clean before use to prevent any contamination or disease.
Fill with Growing Medium:
Use a high-quality, sterile seed starting mix. Avoid using garden soil as it can contain pests and diseases.
Fill each cup about 3/4 full with the growing medium.
Moisten the Medium:
Lightly water the growing medium until it is evenly moist but not soggy.
Sow the Seeds:
Sow seeds according to their specific depth and spacing requirements. For microgreens, you can sow the seeds densely across the surface.
Lightly press the seeds into the soil or cover with a thin layer of the growing medium.
Label Each Cup:
Use plant labels or write directly on the tray to identify the seeds in each cup.
Watering:
Water gently to avoid displacing seeds.
Keep the soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged.
Provide Light:
Place the tray in a bright location with indirect sunlight or under grow lights.
Microgreens typically need about 12-16 hours of light per day.
Maintain Temperature:
Most seeds germinate best at temperatures between 65-75°F (18-24°C).
Cover the Tray (Optional):
Use a clear plastic dome to maintain humidity until the seeds germinate. Remove the cover once seedlings emerge to prevent mold and fungus.
