  • Other Features And Applications Growing the plant in full sun will increase its life. As more pests are attracted with plants grown in shaded areas which receive very little direct sunlight. The chrysanthemum plant grows as a bush, and is loaded with flowers. The main care it requires is to select a proper place for growth.

1.Starting Indoors: Chrysanthemum seeds can be started indoors 6-8 weeks before the last expected frost date in your area. This early start allows the seedlings to establish before being transplanted outdoors.

2. Planting Medium: Use a well-draining and sterile seed-starting mix or a blend of peat moss and perlite for germinating the seeds. Avoid using garden soil, as it can lead to fungal issues.

3. Seed Sowing: Sow the chrysanthemum seeds on the surface of the seed-starting mix. Lightly press them into the soil, but do not cover them with additional soil, as chrysanthemum seeds require light to germinate.

4. Watering: Water the seeds gently using a spray bottle or a fine mist to avoid dislodging the seeds. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.

5. Germination: Place the seed trays or pots in a warm location with indirect sunlight. Chrysanthemum seeds typically germinate within 10-14 days. Once the seedlings emerge, provide them with bright light or move them under a grow light to promote healthy growth.

6. Transplanting: Once the seedlings have developed a few sets of true leaves and are large enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots or containers. This will give each seedling enough space to grow and develop a strong root system.

7. Harden Off: Before transplanting the chrysanthemum seedlings outdoors, gradually acclimate them to outdoor conditions. Over the course of a week, expose the seedlings to increasing amounts of sunlight and outdoor temperatures. Start with a few hours of morning sunlight and gradually extend the exposure.

8. Outdoor Planting: Choose a sunny location in your garden with well-draining soil. Chrysanthemums prefer full sun to thrive and produce abundant flowers. Space the transplants according to the mature size of the chrysanthemum variety, as some can grow quite large.

9. Watering and Fertilizing: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged during the growing season. Chrysanthemums appreciate regular watering, especially during hot and dry periods. Fertilize the plants with a balanced fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season to support healthy growth and flower production.

10. Pinching and Deadheading: To encourage bushier growth and more abundant blooms, pinch back the growing tips of young chrysanthemum plants when they are about 6 inches tall. Additionally, remove faded or spent flowers regularly (deadheading) to promote continuous blooming.

11. Winter Care: In colder climates, some chrysanthemum varieties may not survive the winter. Consider digging up the plants in late fall, potting them, and overwintering them indoors in a cool and well-lit location.
