Bull’s Blood beet is a very attractive microgreen that foodies and chefs love for its contrasting colors, distinctive earthy flavor, and crunchy yet juicy texture.Other Features And Applications : Not only do they have a vivid color and delicious taste, but these microgreens are also bursting with nutrients. Like most microgreens, they’re a good source of Vitamins A, B, C, E, and K, iron, calcium, and protein.
Preparation: Fill a shallow tray or container with a well-draining potting mix, preferably a soilless medium like coconut coir or peat moss.
Sowing: Spread a layer of beetroot ‘Bull’s Blood’ seeds evenly across the surface of the potting mix. Aim for a dense but not overcrowded distribution.
Covering: Lightly cover the seeds with a thin layer of potting mix or vermiculite. Press gently to ensure good seed-to-soil contact.
Watering: Mist the surface of the soil with water until it is evenly moist but not waterlogged. Use a spray bottle to avoid disturbing the seeds.
Germination: Place the tray in a warm, well-lit location, preferably with indirect sunlight. Keep the soil consistently moist by misting regularly.
Growing: As the seeds germinate and seedlings emerge, continue to water gently to keep the soil moist. Avoid overwatering, as this can lead to damping-off disease.
Light: Once the seedlings have developed their first true leaves, provide them with direct sunlight or grow lights for 12-16 hours per day. This will promote healthy growth and vibrant color.
Harvesting: Beetroot microgreens are typically ready to harvest in about 10-14 days after sowing, once they have developed their first true leaves. Use scissors to cut the microgreens just above the soil line when they reach 2-3 inches in height.
Storage: Use harvested microgreens immediately for best flavor and nutritional value. If storing, place them in a sealed container in the refrigerator and use within a few days.
