1. Seed Starting:

• Choose a chrysanthemum mix seed packet to enjoy a variety of colors and flower types.
• Start seeds indoors about 8-10 weeks before the last expected frost date in your area. This will give the plants a head start before transplanting.
• Use seed-starting trays or pots with drainage holes and fill them with a well-draining seed-starting mix.

2. Sowing Seeds:

• Lightly press the chrysanthemum seeds onto the surface of the soil. Do not cover them with soil, as they need light to germinate.
• Mist the surface with water to keep it evenly moist.

3. Germination:

• Chrysanthemum seeds typically germinate within 10-20 days. Maintain a consistent temperature between 65-75°F (18-24°C) for optimal germination.
• Using a humidity dome or plastic wrap over the seed trays can help retain moisture.

4. Transplanting:

• Once the seedlings have developed a few sets of true leaves, they are ready to be transplanted into individual pots or cell packs.
• Harden off the seedlings by gradually exposing them to outdoor conditions over the course of a week before transplanting them into the garden.

5. Outdoor Planting:

• Choose a well-draining location with full sun to partial shade.
• Space the transplanted seedlings about 12-18 inches apart, depending on the mature size of the chrysanthemum varieties in the mix.
• Plant the seedlings at the same depth they were growing in the pots.

6. Care:

• Water the plants regularly to keep the soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged. Chrysanthemums prefer slightly moist soil.
• Fertilize with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer or a water-soluble fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season.
• To encourage bushier growth and more blooms, pinch back the growing tips of the young chrysanthemum plants when they reach about 6 inches in height. Repeat as needed.

7. Support and Deadheading:

• Taller chrysanthemum varieties may require staking or support as they grow to prevent them from flopping over.
• Regularly remove faded flowers (deadhead) to encourage continuous blooming and prevent the plant from focusing energy on seed production.

8. Overwintering (Optional):

• In colder climates, chrysanthemums may not survive the winter. You can try to overwinter them by providing mulch around the base of the plants to protect the roots from freezing temperatures.

9. Pest and Disease Management:

• Monitor your chrysanthemum plants for common pests such as aphids, mites, and caterpillars. Treat infestations promptly.
• Be aware of diseases like powdery mildew and rust. Proper spacing, good air circulation, and avoiding overhead watering can help prevent these issues.
